What is a WorkCover Hearing Test?

It is a comprehensive hearing assessment for people working in noisy environments or requiring evidence for workplace injury claims, compensation or occupational monitoring. It helps establish whether hearing loss may relate to workplace noise and provides useful information for workers, employers, insurers and medical practitioners.

Who needs workplace hearing testing?

Testing is recommended for workers exposed to occupational noise and organisations monitoring hearing health or meeting hearing-conservation obligations.

Early intervention can reduce the long-term impact of occupational hearing loss.

Why are workplace tests important?

Noise-induced hearing loss often develops gradually. Workers may be unaware of deterioration until hearing conversations or workplace signals becomes difficult.

What does it measure?

PTA measures hearing sensitivity from approximately 250 Hz to 8000 Hz—the range covering sounds most important for everyday communication.

What does the assessment include?

Case history and consultation
Covers occupational exposure, hearing protection, medical and ear health, and previous results.

Otoscopic examination
Checks the ear canal and eardrum for wax, infection or other conditions.

Pure Tone and Speech Audiometry
Measures thresholds, loss patterns and everyday speech understanding.

Understanding noise-induced hearing loss

NIHL occurs when prolonged loud-sound exposure damages sensory hair cells in the inner ear. Heavy machinery, power tools, aircraft, farming and industrial equipment are common sources. The damage is permanent but largely preventable through early detection and suitable protection.

Benefits for workplaces

Routine testing supports employees and employers by providing objective records, identifying changes and strengthening prevention programs.

Why choose Welfast Hearing Australia?

We provide professional occupational assessments using modern diagnostic technology, evidence-based protocols, accurate reporting and timely support for employees and organisations.
