HEARING ASSESSMENT
A hearing assessment can help explain changes in listening and communication and provide a useful starting point for personalised advice.
You may wish to arrange an assessment if conversations feel less clear, you frequently ask people to repeat themselves, television volume has increased, background noise makes listening difficult, or family members have noticed a change. An assessment can also provide a useful baseline when changes feel gradual.
Understanding your current hearing can make the next conversation clearer and more practical.
Talk about your hearing, communication priorities and relevant history.
Testing may examine responses to sounds and speech and middle-ear function when appropriate.
Findings and possible next steps are explained in plain language.
If a hearing change is identified, the discussion may cover communication strategies, monitoring, hearing technology or referral to another health professional when appropriate. You will have an opportunity to ask questions before deciding what to do next.
Bring information about relevant medical history, current hearing devices and the listening situations you find difficult. You may choose to bring a support person involved in your day-to-day communication.
Referral requirements can vary with the service, funding pathway and individual circumstances. Contact Welfast Hearing if you are unsure.
Your audiologist will explain the findings and recommended next steps. Ask the clinic about copies or reports needed for another provider.
Your audiologist will consider whether wax may affect assessment or requires a separate ear care appointment.
