Understand your tinnitus and explore your support options.
Are you experiencing ringing, buzzing, humming or another unexplained sound in your ears? Welfast Hearing provides personalised tinnitus assessments and support across the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie.
Tinnitus is the experience of hearing a sound that does not come from an external source. It may be present in one ear, both ears or feel as though it is coming from inside the head.
A tinnitus assessment can help you better understand your symptoms, hearing health and appropriate next steps.
People experience tinnitus differently. It may sound like:
A tone or sound in one or both ears.
A low, soft or continuous background sound.
Sounds that may be intermittent or follow the rhythm of your pulse.
The purpose is to understand your tinnitus and identify a suitable support pathway—not simply to measure the sound.
Talk about the sounds you hear, when they started and their effect on daily life.
Consider noise exposure, medicines and relevant health factors.
Check your ear canals and eardrums and complete a hearing assessment.
Understand your hearing results and possible contributing factors.
Receive personalised recommendations and referral guidance where appropriate.
There is no single tinnitus approach that works for everyone. Recommendations depend on your assessment findings, hearing ability and personal priorities.
1 ) Clear information about tinnitus
2) Practical sound-enrichment strategies
3) Hearing-aid assessment when appropriate
4) Strategies for sleep and concentration
5) Communication support
6) Guidance about hearing protection
7) Follow-up care
8) Referral to a GP or ENT specialist when required
Seek prompt medical assessment if tinnitus starts suddenly, follows an injury, occurs with sudden hearing loss, is consistently present in one ear, follows your pulse, or occurs with significant dizziness or new neurological symptoms.
If ringing, buzzing or another sound in your ears is affecting your sleep, concentration or daily life, professional assessment is a practical first step.

No. Tinnitus and hearing loss commonly occur together, but tinnitus can also be present without an obvious hearing change.
Ear-wax build-up may sometimes be associated with tinnitus, but ringing can have other causes.
There is no guaranteed cure for every person. Support focuses on understanding contributing factors and reducing its impact.
They may support some people when hearing loss is also present. Suitability depends on your results.
A referral is generally not required. A GP or ENT referral may be recommended when clinically appropriate.
Bring previous hearing results, a current medication list and notes about when tinnitus started and what changes it.
